It looks like atheists want to remind people that it’s unlikely that a God exists. A slogan reading “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life” has been posted on 60 London buses for a period of four weeks. It was launched on October 21 by the British Humanist Association (BHA), which hoped to get $17,802 for the funding. Professor Richard Dawkins is supporting this campaign by donating half of this amount. The campaign raised just under $150,000 in a record of two days. This money may let BHA to expand elsewhere like Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
Richard Dawkins says, “This campaign to put alternative slogans on London buses will make people think – and thinking is anathema to religion.” What about great scientists in the past that contributed to science like John Newton, Michael Faraday, Isaac Newton, and others? These men contributed to science by the conviction of their faith.
The word “probably” in the slogan have concerned many atheists, which they had to insert to be compliant with advertising regulations. It reflects the impossibility of disproving that God exists and the always shifting foundation for truth. There are no absolutes in the evolution theory. You cannot prove that God does not exist.
There are two things that they assume for Christians: (1. they worry, (2.they don’t enjoy life. That is far from the truth. If you believe only in tangible things like money and a career, you will most likely worry over those things. And also does the thought that there is no purpose here on life, but we are another species of animals make you enjoy life? And what about the effects of Darwinism and atheism: the millions of victims of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao and the high abortion and suicide rates? Do you take comfort in the thought that an almighty, loving God doesn’t exist to meet your needs and living in a cruel, merciless environment that struggle and death brought us into existence?
On the other hand, there is no need to worry if you have received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour. He is a loving God who will meet the needs of His children. Matthew 7:11 says “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him.” So if God is with you everywhere you go and He’ll provide your needs, there is no need to worry. Matthew 6:34 says “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” And if God will supply your needs, we don’t need to worry, and we have a purpose for living, then we can enjoy life. We can have the joy of the Lord in our hearts and have a fulfilled life. We can face tough obstacles in our life, because God is there to help us.
While the slogans on the London buses will be there temporarily, the Word of God endures forever.
